Confession of a Wedding Musician -
I picked up my first official Elvis Presley guitar
when I was ten years old.  For many of us -- growing up during the Elvis Era – life began
with the knowledge that women would swoon over any man with a guitar on stage.  He
didn’t even have to play the guitar as long as he could swivel his hips and look incredibly
sexy.  MORE...

Hunting for Live Musicians
Oh, they’re out there all right just waiting to be captured.  And they’re not too difficult to
find when you take the time to look for them, but here’s the catch:
Start looking for the
music first and not for the musician.  MORE...

Riding with Jimi Hendrix
Last May, I celebrated my birthday by parachuting from 14,000 feet.  But this wasn’t the
most thrilling experience of my life which actually took place 40 years go.  MORE...

Negotiating Rates with Musicians
How much is that piano-playing doggy in the window?  Yes, the one with the waggling tail!
The real answer is:  How much are you willing to pay?  Demand and supply is the name
of the game in the wedding music business.  MORE...

Doing Too Much Is Never Enough
Every day is different – especially in the life of a wedding musician.  For example, let me
tell you about a day last month in which I was sitting at my computer waiting for my next
wedding assignment.

Your Life's Soundtrack On A Shoestring
The average amount couples spend on entertainment for their wedding and reception
has moved from 816 in 2008 to $749 in 2009.  More and more weddings are saying
goodbye to the ten-piecetraditional wedding band and hello to solo musicians or DJs
who run about $500-1,000.  MORE...

Weddings on a Holiday
My best friend was born on Christmas and so it was always easy to remember the date
I had to send her a card and a birthday gift.  While I thought it would be wonderful to be
born on a holiday, she hated it.  MORE...

To Good To Be True
I’d say about 25% of the people who ask me to quote a price for playing at their event
end up hiring me.
Thanks!  The other 75% have either selected another musician, were
just window shopping or cancelled their event.  MORE...

Wedding Band Etiquette
I’m always surprised when I hear stories about musicians behaving badly in public.
Although, let’s face it, we musicians – and performers, in general – tend to be either a
little rough around the edges and/or, well let’s just say, crazy.  MORE...

The Fly Who Came In From The Cold
Just before Thanksgiving of 2009, I looked out of my window and saw a bright blue sky.
I opened my back door and eagerly let in the fresh air of this very beautiful day.  There
was a slight chill in the air, but not enough to justify wearing a sweater.  Maybe a
long-sleeve shirt would suffice, but I didn’t care.  It was a refreshing change from the gray
skies of the past month.  MORE...
